Relax During Treatment with Sedation Dentistry

Patient being sedated at the dentist showing the importance of sedation dentistry

Dr. Matthew Walton has the experience and credentials you should look for when considering a new dentist who offers sedation. He offers several options for sedation so that you can be relaxed and comfortable throughout your appointment.

Dr. Walton is specially trained (Indiana University and UCLA) in sedation dentistry and is one of only a few dentists licensed in Indiana to administer IV sedation (most dentists administer pill-only sedation).

The Benefits of Sedation for Dental Anxiety

Sedation dentistry enables our patients to unwind during dental operations. Patients can overcome anxiety caused by dental procedures, ranging from minimal discomfort to a fear of simply going to the dentist. Additionally, sedation makes better use of your time by enabling you to combine multiple operations into a single office visit.

You may feel a little embarrassed that you haven’t been going to your regular check-ups because of your dental phobia, or you may have a bad recollection of going to the dentist as a child or a tooth restoration gone wrong. We want to make you feel comfortable and not pass judgment.

An expert sedation dentist with compassion and experience like Dr. Walton knows your worries and can employ sedation dentistry options, including IV, oral sedation, and laughing gas (nitrous oxide) to make your dental appointment comfortable and stress-free.

Options for Sedation

The sedation Dr. Walton uses to help relax his patients is safe and effective. The type of sedation that is recommended will be based on your anxiety level, the length of your appointment, and the type of procedure you are undergoing.

  • Oral Sedation – This would typically be a pill taken before your procedure.
  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) – This type of sedation is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen administered from a canister by a tube and a small mask.

Comfortable Dental Treatments with Sedation Dentistry

Dr. Walton recommends different sedation options for patients with dental anxiety, low pain tolerance, very sensitive teeth, a strong gag reflex, or a large amount of upcoming dental work requirements.
